Professional Veterinary Alliance: How to Work with Personal Data

Ensuring Personal Data Protection Measures: a «Headache» or a Clear Algorithm for Everyone?

On November 18, Borovtsov & Salei took part in the specialized conference «Professional Veterinary Alliance 2025».

As part of the session «Legal Armor: How to Withstand Challenges in the Legal Field,» Elena Salei, the legal counsel at Borovtsov & Salei, delivered an expert presentation on «Ensuring Personal Data Protection Measures: a ‘Headache’ or a Clear Algorithm for Everyone?»

How can one operate within the legal framework and reduce the risk of violations?

Using specific practical cases, the presentation focused on key issues faced by veterinary clinics when processing personal data in the course of providing veterinary services. The following questions were addressed:

• Why establish proper personal data management? Are there any special features in processing personal data within veterinary services? Are data about a veterinary clinic’s patient considered personal data?

• Where to begin? With an «exterior assessment». The website as the clinic’s business card.

• What has already been done, and how does it correlate with the mandatory personal data protection measures required by law? What still needs to be implemented?

What should be taken into account to avoid common mistakes when obtaining consent for personal data processing?

• Five final recommendations — a practical checklist for managers to reduce the risk of legal violations.
